Two European plastics associations, PlasticsEurope and TEPPFA, have jointly decided to launch a website with news on the economic and environmental benefits of plastic pipes on March 28. 2006.
Plastic pipes are sustainable, economic and durable, and are used in many areas such as water and gas distribution, inside and outside buildings, municipal systems, heating and cable protection. Still, PlasticsEurope and TEPPFA believe that the public are not fully aware of the many advantages of plastic pipes and that less sustainable and more expensive solutions are still being used. They therefore have decided to launch a shared website.
From March 28, 2006, the website www.plastic-pipes.com will provide information and insight on plastic pipe systems. It will be a source of instant information about the how, what, where and why of products and industry. The website will also publish the latest developments - new polymers, products, applications, projects, useful case histories, environmental news, EU developments, and business highlights.
"This website will provide answers about the features and more importantly the benefits that have prompted the use and application of plastic pipe systems in our ever more environmentally conscious world. Furthermore, it will incorporate a proactive news gathering and distribution service that engages the media and encourages open dialogue on many fronts,"says Roger Smith, President of TEPPFA.
The objective of TEPPFA and PlasticsEurope is to provide the facts in this rather complex area in an easily understandable and accessible way:
"Plastics are very versatile, embracing thousands of different types of materials and applications. We are helping to spread facts in an important application by setting up and maintaining this website," says Nancy Russotto, Executive Director of PlasticsEurope.
The website has been designed to provide a useful, dynamic and open medium to communicate with many stakeholders such as European institutions, governments, municipal authorities, architects, and developers, building merchants, civil engineers, utility companies and students who want to know more about the role of plastics in this vital sector.
