POLO-RDS evolution –

PREVENTION OF BUILDING DAMAGE CAUSED BY DAMP
THROUGH THE USE OF PROFESSIONAL PIPE DUCTING NOW UP TO DN/OD 250

Newly constructed buildings are linked to the communally available infrastructure at an early stage during the construction of the building shell. A significant number of cables and pipes are required before the building meets modern standards representing the best possible living comfort. Cables and pipes are routed into the building subterraneously through floor slabs and basement walls. If appropriate technical measures are not put into effect, water can penetrate into basement areas and lead to massive damage caused by damp. After the event, damage of this kind can usually only be repaired with significant technical effort and commensurately high costs. For established buildings there is also a permanent need to either extend the infrastructural connection, or to renew this cable- and pipework. The problem of damage caused by damp in cases where cables and pipes are extended or renewed is similar to that of new developments; however, the corresponding professional technical solutions require innovative approaches. State of the art pipe duct systems with tried-and-tested properties offer the requisite securities against damage caused by damp.

POLO-RDS evolution, a pipe duct system belonging the most recent generation, represents secure leak-proofing of the stonework against leakage water as well as against permanent pressurised water, and it is distinguished byespecially easy installation.

The pipe duct system exhibiting many clever details ensures the simple, safe and impermeable routing of pipes and cables through walls.

The expansion of the pipe duct system to include pipes up to DN/OD 250 now allows the leak proofing of geothermal heat exchangers for controlled dwelling ventilation using the high-grade POLO-RDS evolution sealing element.

The requirements placed by the market upon pipe duct systems encompass a broad spectrum:

   - Cable ducting from fibre optic cables to high-voltage cables

   - Pipe ducting for a wide variety of diameters and pipe materials carrying water, gas, waste water and other types of medium

     -  Impermeability to leakage water and pressurised ground water

   - Absorption of compression movements within the excavation pit backfill in order to protect medium-carrying pipes

POLO-RDS evolution consists of a finned pipe and corresponding sealing packets. The finned pipe ensures impermeability with regard to the stonework, the sealing packets safeguard the impermeability with regard to the finned pipe.

Tailored to the requirements of construction sites, the new pipe ducting system impresses due to the ease of laying and the application safety. The standard installation length of the system is 30 cm. The finned pipe can easily be shortened to fit standardised walls with a thickness of either 25 or 20 cm with the help of the integrated tear-off elements, and without the use of cutting tools. It is also possible to extend the system to fit walls with a greater thickness.

A flange with ready-made nail-holes allows simple mounting and fixing in the mould.

The sealing elements are hinged, to facilitate mounting onto pre-installed piping. According to the numerous application possibilities, the sealing elements are available in different design implementations. The sealing elements are built with an onion-skin structure and can thus cover a wide dimensional range of medium-carrying pipes to be installed. Byextracting one or more layers it is possible to achieve the optimal fit of the aperture to all available pipe diameters.  Multi-sealing elements with fixed bores allow the simultaneous installation of cables and pipes. The subsequent integration of the cables is achieved with the help of sectional incisions in the rubber gasket. This also permits the possibility to bundle cables and narrow pipes in a single duct.

Gravity lines such as household drains are laid at a gradient. The sealing elements thereforeneed to accommodate bending in cases where the pipes have greater dimensions, without failing when they are exposed to pressurised ground water.

In existing buildings, a wall opening can be established retroactively, using core hole drilling. The sealing elements are matched to the diameters of commercially availabledrill bits. The compressed rubber gasket seals directly against the cut concrete surface. By sealing the pores in the cut surface of the core hole drilling, the concrete is rendered watertight.
